The owner of the winery, Ivan, has cleared the land for the cultivation of organic growth of the grapes. His family cellar dates in 1835, and Ivan has preserved it as a family heritage. The production of the wines is based on the natural quality of the grapes and low intervention in the cellar so the process is organic using indigenous yeasts. This approach is used so the particular character of wines is based in terroir with the final result of original, sincere and 100% natural wines.
Family company Ivan Kosovec is located on the hills of Moslovačka highlands in Popovača where the family owns 3 ha of vineyards with approximately 19,000 vines in one of the most beautiful positions in Moslavina. The dominant variety is Škrlet, Chardonnay, Frankovka, Zweigelt, and Pinot Noir. The philosophy of wine-growing is based on eco principles and techniques based on hand-work and minimal use of mechanization, artificial compost, insecticide, and herbicide.
Indigenous grape variety from Moslavina, in the interpretation of Ivan Kosovec it reaches its true character. The berries are known by tiny red freckles and thus is the origin of the name of variety (In German “scharlach” means rash). You can feel the phenolic ripeness in every sip. The wine is dry, mineral with notes of yellow fruits. The structure gives it the potential for aging, but it is already ideal, juicy and drinkable.
