Description
WHO?
Domaine Etienne Sauzet is one of the world’s greatest producers of white wines and one of the top names in Burgundy, famous for producing some of the finest Grands Crus in Puligny-Montrachet. The domaine was established in the 1920s and today, the fourth generation has taken over with Emilie, running the domaine with her winemaker husband Benoît Riffault.
WHERE?
Domaine is located in the heart of the village Puligny-Montrachet and their vineyards have been farmed organically since 2008 but switched to biodynamic from the vintage 2015. The average age of the vines is 50 years old, grown on perfect Chardonnay soil in the heart of the Côte de Beaune.
WHY?
‘La Tufera’ – often called ‘mini puligny’, is an exceptional wine for the money and shows far more class than the humble Bourgogne Blanc label suggests. It is in fact a declassified Puligny given that it is made in exactly the same way as the estate’s Puligny-Montrachets and from grapes in neighbouring vineyards just outside the Puligny AOC.
