Description
WHO?
After 50 years in wine – and inspired by the unique chalky soils on his wife’s Dorset sheep farm in West Dorset – Steven Spurrier decided to join the English sparkling wine revolution. In 2008, he and Bella went to select the finest Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier root stocks from Burgundy’s famous Pepinieres Guillaume vine nursery.
WHERE?
The vines are planted on south and south west facing slopes in West Dorset. After analysis, seven Chardonnay clones were selected while the vines for this wine are from south facing slopes. Bride Valley has been sustainably farmed for centuries and although the grapes are not certified organic, the vineyard continues to follow organic principles.
WHY?
The wonderful silver pallor and delicate, persistent bubbles give this wine instant appeal in the glass. The bouquet is rich in white flowers and white summer fruits such as pear and peach, but with classically English undertones of elderflower and green apples. On the palate, the wine is vivacious but wonderfully subtle, with a minerality and freshness on the finish that will remain while it fills out in bottle over the next 24 months.
