Vigneti del Salento is owned by the Farnese group and I Muri is their venture in Puglia. Winemaker Filippo Baccalaro is the driving force behind this label. Filippo, a native of Piemonte, has been working in Puglia for almost two decades. He was attracted by the rich, ripe flavours of the fruit, and the ability to capture these flavours with minimal use of technology and a lot of know-how.
Puglia is in the heel of Italy. It’s a hot and dry area but cooled by sea breezes. The I Muri vineyards are in the province of Taranto, mostly in the communes of Manduria and Sava. Production is lower than its potential, which ensures the best quality grapes are selected. The red soils are calcareous clay and rich in iron, minerals and nutrients. 80% of the grapes come from old bush vines that are at least 20 years old.
Primitivo is now accepted to be the same grape as California’s Zinfandel. This one has a dark red color with violet tinge with s red berry fruit perfumes with a hint of spice. Full-bodied with firm tannins, where fleshy purple fruit is infused with a smoky, cigar box savouriness, a hint of violet, a touch of cocoa, cake spices and a long creamy finish where brighter red fruits emerge. Price is almost unbeatable.Additional informations (PDF)
