Description
WHO?
Vigneti del Salento is owned by the Farnese group and I Muri is their venture in Puglia. Winemaker Filippo Baccalaro is the driving force behind this label. Filippo, a native of Piemonte, has been working in Puglia for almost two decades. He was attracted by the rich, ripe flavours of the fruit, and the ability to capture these flavours with minimal use of technology and a lot of know-how.
WHERE?
Puglia is in the heel of Italy. It’s a hot and dry area but cooled by sea breezes. The I Muri vineyards are in the province of Taranto, mostly in the communes of Manduria and Sava. Production is lower than its potential, which ensures the best quality grapes are selected. The red soils are calcareous clay and rich in iron, minerals and nutrients. 80% of the grapes come from old bush vines that are at least 20 years old.
WHY?
I Muri Negroamaro is a ruby red in colour with purple hues. The wine is medium-bodied, velvety and well balanced with intense, fruity and spicy aromas of black currants and berries. The palate is rich, with flavours of dark black currants, forest fruits and toasted coffee. It has savoury notes on the long lasting, fresh, rounded and warm finish.
