Ivan took over the task to stub the 3 ha of virgin forest to ensure the space for organic wine-growing. The cellar dates from 1835 and Ivan restored it to preserve the cultural heritage. The production of wine is based on the top quality grapes with no interventions and with indigenous yeasts. This approach is crucial to transfer the character of terroir and vintage which results in original, sincere and natural wines.
Family company Ivan Kosovec is located on the hills of Moslovačka highlands in Popovača where the family owns 3 ha of vineyards with approximately 19,000 vines in one of the most beautiful positions in Moslavina. The dominant variety is Škrlet, Chardonnay, Frankovka, Zweigelt, and Pinot Noir. The philosophy of wine-growing is based on eco principles and techniques based on hand-work and minimal use of mechanization, artificial compost, insecticides and herbicides.
It’s interestingly that Ivan Kosovec decided to leave Zweigelt vintage 2017 in the cellar and release the vintage 2018. The reason is the fact that vintage 2018 Zweigelt is completely ready for the market with fantastic balance. This wine is noble, with optimal ripens, usage of ambient yeasts, and in line with a low-intervention approach in the cellar. The aromatic scope is really wide, from red apple to powerful aronia, with a strong body and surprisingly high drinkability. This is fruity, refreshing wine.
