Description

WHO?

Selvapiana is a classic Tuscan fattoria located in the Chianti Rufina zone east of Florence. It was originally a summer residence for the Florentine bishops. Since 1957 it has been run by Francesco Giuntini Antinori and he has worked to restore the reputation of Chianti Rufina. Rufina’s soil of galestro mixed with limestone and clay combined with its proximity to the Apennines provide a special microclimate for late ripening fruit with high acidity.

WHERE?

The grapes are grown in the ancient Selvapiana estate, Situated just north of the town of Pontassieve, which covers 56 hectares. For the most part, the vineyards (average 15-40+ years in age) face west/north west and are situated at an altitude of 150-200 metres above sea level. The soil is mostly clay and limestone.

WHY?

The Chianti Classico region gets most of the glory while Chianti Rufina, a much smaller region than Chianti Classico located east of Florence, offers great value in traditionally styled Chianti and Selvapiana is one of the best in this area.
