WHO?
The wine legacy of the Legović family dates back to 1937, with four generations of vine growers and winemakers deeply rooted in Istrian terroir managing 12 hectares of vineyards. Walter (formerly the head winemaker at Agrolaguna) and his son Marko, dedicated themselves fully to winemaking, planting selected grape varieties from internationally renowned regions, ensuring a quality that has no alternative.
WHERE?
In Western Istria, not far from the picturesque village of Kaštelir, lies Mekiši, a traditional Istrian farmhouse that is now the residence and cellar of the Legović family. The vineyards are located at an altitude of 220-250 meters on the famous Istrian red soil, rich in bauxite and high iron content, which imparts a strong mineral stamp to the wines. Here, the essence of the terroir is poured into the glass in the best possible manner.
WHY?
When creating their first sparkling wine, the Legović family didn’t take the “path of least resistance” by playing it safe with Chardonnay as a cosmopolitan grape variety. Instead, they uncompromisingly remained true to their immersion in the local terroir and produced their first bubbles from Malvazija Istarska. The intense perlage of delicate bubbles further emphasizes the floral-fruity aspect of Malvazija. The Charmat method, or secondary fermentation in large isobaric tanks, also enhances the liveliness of green apple aromas and discreet herbal notes that dominate the finish alongside a touch of minerality.
